On Sunday, February 4th, Marfa Book Co. opens an extended pop-up at the Institute of Contemporary Art in downtown Los Angeles. The pop up coincides with ICA LA’s latest exhibition, Grandfather: A Pioneer Like Us, and features more than twenty-five publishers from the fields of poetry, art, photography, essay, and literature in translation.
Marfa Book Co. will present individual selections from each of the publishers as a means of emphasizing their particular vision. Presses have been chosen from the United States, Mexico, and the Netherlands, and include publications by Dorothy, a Publishing Project, a press based in St. Louis, dedicated to publishing books by women; Haymarket, a publisher of books related to socialist theory and history based in Chicago; Gato Negro, a publisher of poetry and art books based in Mexico City; and Primary Information, specializing in facsimile republications of artists books, based in New York City.
The store will be open during museum hours, Wednesday through Sunday, 11 am to 7 pm.
